2nd Trimester Abortion Procedure

SECOND TRIMESTER
A dilation (dilatation) and evacuation abortion, D&E, is a surgical abortion procedure during which an abortionist first dialates the woman’s cervix. The abortionist will then use tools to tear the baby’s limbs off, and crush his/her skull. The body pieces are then removed from the uterus with tools.
SECOND TRIMESTER
Surgical Abortion: Dilation and Evacuation (D&E)
A dilation (dilatation) and evacuation abortion, D&E, is a surgical abortion procedure during which an abortionist first dialates the woman’s cervix. The abortionist will then use tools to tear the baby’s limbs off, and crush his/her skull. The body pieces are then removed from the uterus with tools.
The baby does not receive any pain medication. The D&E abortion procedure is usually performed between thirteen and twenty-four weeks LMP (that is thirteen to twenty-four weeks after the first day of the woman’s last menstrual period).
